ALTOS DEL PASTAZA” RAIN FOREST RESERVE AND ECO-LODGE from his opening in January 2009, our first two year of operations, it has been a completed success, hosting guests from all over the world and from Ecuador as well. With this set of mind, all our team have the will to show you and the world the fascinating Ecuadorian Rainforest, and help you discover and understand the local indigenous culture. The lodge has hired local people so that it can contribute to improve their low income and in exchange the lodge is benefiting from their ancestral expertise and knowledge of the rainforest. Altos Del Pastaza Lodge & Reserve and Rainforest Alliance have established an alliance to support Best Management Practices in Sustainable Tourism since 2010. The Eco-Lodge is coached by COLLEGE VOYAGEURS-NEW DIMENSIONS TRAVEL & TOURS, a private agency from Ottawa in Canada, well-know for its experience in ecotourism. With such a management, the Eco-lodge wants to ensure that it can meet your expectations when you finally come and visit this fascinating ecosystem and at the same time we can offer you facilities and services of high quality. “Distractour” our direct tour operator with two branches in Baños Village has joined our venture. Rain forest is one the world’s most biologically diverse ecosystems, even when it is less than 7 percent of the land surface on Earth. Rain forest ecosystems contain more plant and animal species than virtually any other habitat in the world. Rain forests play a critical role in global climate regulation by absorbing carbon dioxide and liberation of Oxygen to earth.
One hectare (about 2.5 acres) of tropical rain forest may contain more than 600 species of trees. Many as 1,000 different cultures of indigenous peoples may be living in rain forests worldwide. The early 1990s tropical forests were being destroyed at a rate of approximately 28 hectares (70 acres) a minute; 14 million hectares (35 million acres) each year.
