About Altos del Pastaza eco-lodge and reserve

We have choose its name in honor to this beautiful province of the Amazon region of Ecuador.


Pastaza is a province in the Orient of Ecuador located in the eastern jungle. The capital is Puyo, founded on May 12, 1899. Pastaza and its surrounding areas were known as the “Cinnamon Province” in colonial times. Today it is a must-see spot for tourists looking to get in touch with nature and live out an Amazon adventure. The area’s exuberant forests and large variety of animal and plant species are its principal attractions. With a wet, tropical climate, the area’s average temperature is 26 degrees centigrade. Pastaza basin is home to four major indigenous groups, of total of seven (Huarani, Achuar, Kandozi, and Quechua) with roughly  83.933 inhabitants. Pastaza is the largest province in Ecuador and the richest in biodiversity.


The Pastaza River surges into the province from the west and as the landscape flattens, meanders on to the Napo River a tributary of the mighty Amazon River. Natural resources of Pastaza are bananas, grapefruit, tobacco, cocoa and coffee. Tea has successfully been cultivated by a few British companies, and in the mid-eighties one of the companies was honored by a visit from Princess Margaret from the royal family of Britain.

The owners of the lodge believe the future of the rainforest is inextricably linked to the well being of its inhabitants, Their philosophy of providing quality and conservation, while preserving nature and offering guests a safe and unforgettable experience and they are looking for new owners to continue this eco venture.

Hemos elegido su nombre en honor a esta hermosa provincia de la región amazónica del Ecuador

Pastaza es una provincia del Oriente del Ecuador ubicada en la selva oriental. La capital es Puyo, fundada el 12 de mayo de 1899. Pastaza y sus alrededores eran conocidos como la “Provincia de la Canela” en la época colonial. Hoy es un lugar imperdible para los turistas que buscan entrar en contacto con la naturaleza y vivir una aventura amazónica. Los exuberantes bosques de la zona y la gran variedad de especies animales y vegetales son sus principales atractivos. Con un clima tropical húmedo, la temperatura promedio de la zona es de 26 grados centígrados. La cuenca de Pastaza es el hogar de cuatro grupos indígenas principales, de un total de siete (Huarani, Achuar, Kandozi y Quechua) con aproximadamente  83.933 habitantes. Pastaza es la provincia más grande del Ecuador y la más rica en biodiversidad.

El río Pastaza surge en la provincia desde el oeste y, a medida que el paisaje se aplana, serpentea hacia el río Napo, un afluente del poderoso río Amazonas. Los recursos naturales de Pastaza son el banano, toronja, tabaco, cacao y café. El té ha sido cultivado con éxito por algunas empresas británicas y, a mediados de los años ochenta, una de las empresas fue honrada con la visita de la princesa Margarita de la familia real de Gran Bretaña.
